Ben matriculated in 1998, and after many years of travel he returned to study Philosophy, Social Anthropology and Environmental Science at UCT. During this time Ben initiated and ran various community food garden projects, became a yoga instructor, and an Art of Living course teacher. In 2006 Ben founded Urban Harvest Edible Gardens, South Africa's first Edible Garden Service. Since then he has designed, installed and maintained over 250 organic food garden projects in Cape Town.

Urban Harvest is a social enterprise specialising in the design, installation and management of organic food gardens at schools, private homes, restaurants and hotels. Urban Harvest's beautiful and highly productive food gardens for township schools provides education, inspiration and better nutrition for thousands of learners daily, while at the same time ensuring sustainable employment for community members.
