The SA JML has given me the opportunity to combine my passion for sailing with my passion for youth development in South Africa.
Dani is involved with the South African Jewish Maritime League (SA JML). Her passion for sailing was introduced at the age of 9 while sailing on the US west coast with her late father. This enthusiasm was continued through her teen years, and every week-end was spent sailing in Langebaan. At 18 she met her husband through the sport. The SA JML has given her the opportunity to combine her passion for sailing with her passion for youth development in South Africa. She was educated at Herzlia and completed her course work at UCT and CPUT.
AREAS WE WORK IN:
JML aims to promote, encourage and support all maritime related activity within the Jewish Community of South Africa and Israel; and to support and develop community based maritime education outreach programmes. Originally founded as a subsidiary to the Israel Palestine Maritime League to support the emerging Israeli navy and maritime industry, the league has played a major role in establishing the Nautical College in Akko (Israel) and developing community based maritime education outreach programmes. In South Africa, The League continues its outreach by providing 3 boats to yacht clubs for their local youth sailing development programmes. In 2008 the JML became a founding member of SASLA (Sailing for Life Skills Association). Its continued work has resulted in 3 successful 'SailingTogether' programmes, bringing youths from all walks of life together as a young enthusiastic sailing team.
