Co - Founder and Trustee
A simple handmade tool allows us to uplift people and communities.
Lauren is the founder of Relate, a 100% not-for-profit social enterprise built on a uniquely sustainable model for the upliftment of local people and communities. Lauren formed Relate in 2004, initially with the intention of helping women build self-esteem and confidence. Then, inspired by the Lance Armstrong armband and how it connected people both to a cause and each other, she shifted her focus to alleviating poverty in Cape Town using a simple handmade tool. With over 30 years' experience in social work and business management, it is Lauren's ability to connect with people of all backgrounds which drives Relate's philosophy that we are all connected, and that each of us therefore has the opportunity, responsibility and privilege to be agents of social change.
AREAS WE WORK IN:
Relate is a 100% not-for-profit social enterprise built on a uniquely sustainable and transparent model for the social upliftment of local people and communities. Through the sale of locally beaded bracelets, the Relate model raises funds for credible charities from health to education, social upliftment, conservation and the environment amongst others; and addresses some of the biggest challenges of our country, through the creation of earning opportunities and investment in skills training and enterprise development in impoverished areas.
