"Change the world with compassion and pride"

Amy Samson is a 25 years old currently completing her final year of medicine at the University of Witwatersrand in Johannesburg. A King David Linksfield graduate, in her spare time, you'll find her with family and friends, playing with her dogs or fulfilling her foodie fantasies. Amy is always up for an adventure and enjoys exploring the world around her. Her love for Jewish tradition, Jewish values and the Jewish community has been part of her inspiration and drive to create and make the "Challah"ishing For Change initiative so much more than a passion project. It has allowed Amy to play a special part in her community and to further incorporate the Jewish community into her life, very meaningfully.

“Challah”ishing For Change is a nonprofit organization based in Johannesburg. Started in 2015 in collaboration with Kspace, it aims to create an opportunity for Jewish women to do two mitzvot at one time; to bake challah for Shabbat as well contribute to charity.

Our mission is to create a space for Jewish women of all ages and backgrounds to come together to bake challot for their families in unity as well as benefitting the charity chosen for the month. Each month a different charity is chosen (Jewish and non-Jewish) and for the women to partake in the challah bake they contribute to the charity by making any donation (that they are able to give) of either money or items that the charity needs.

In the past people within the community haven chosen to sponsor challah bakes in honour of a loved one, in memory of someone or even as a means to collect for a specific charity.
