ABOUT Michalya

Originally from the United States, Michalya Schonwald Moss is the Director of Global Impact and Development for Cadena, an international humanitarian aid and disaster relief organization, guided by the principles of Tikkun Olam. Michalya has been living in South Africa since 2009.

Previously she has been the Youth Years consultant for Ashoka Southern Africa and the Deputy International Director for Tevel b’Tzedek, an Israel based international development NGO.

She has also served on the board of directors for the Jewish Funders Network and is an active member of the board to the Abraham and Sonia Rochlin Foundation. Michalya is also a Board Member of Mensch.

Michalya has always been very passionate about cultivating social entrepreneurship in Africa and has worked extensively in both the public and private sectors.

CADENA is a non-profit civil association dedicated to preventing and assisting crises and disasters around the world, delivering hand-in-hand directly to those in need. Our mission is to relieve human suffering by reducing the vulnerability of populations living in
the constant risk of disasters and crises, fostering a culture of prevention and inclusion.

In South Africa, our Cadena Women's project brings Menstrual Hygiene Management (MHM) education and skills development, and our Resilient Communities project is bringing innovative technologies and ecological solutions to combat the pit-toilet crisis in urban townships.
