In a world where you can be anything, be kind!

ABOUT Nicole Carla

Nicole attended King David Sandton and Linksfield for primary school and high school respectively. Social change and giving back to the community have always being important to her and at school she enjoyed being involved in the outreach programmes.

As a final year medical student, and with the privilege of working in public healthcare centres, on a daily basis Nicole is faced with the many injustices of our country. Her Jewish and South African identity are and have always been important to her. Drawing on this, she wishes to make a positive change in the lives of the less fortunate and create a platform for others to do the same, as well as promote a space where people are proud of their Jewish heritage and identity.

“Challah”ishing For Change is a nonprofit organization based in Johannesburg. Started in 2015 in collaboration with K space JHB, it aims to create an opportunity for Jewish women to do two mitzvot at one time; to bake challah for Shabbat as well contribute to charity.

Our mission is to create a space for Jewish women of all ages and backgrounds to come together to bake challot for their families in unity as well as benefitting the charity chosen for the month. Each month a different charity will be chosen (Jewish and non-Jewish) and in order for the women to partake in the challah bake they will contribute to the charity by making any donation (that they are able to give) of either money or items that the charity needs.

In the past people within the community have chosen to sponsor challah bakes in honour of a loved one, in memory of someone or even as a means to collect for a specific charity.
