ABOUT Laurie Rachel
Having matriculated from Herzlia at the end of 2010, I took the year off to travel abroad. Upon my return I attended the University of Cape Town and graduated with a Bachelor of Social Science majoring in Political Science and Industrial Sociology in 2014 and a Bachelor of Laws in 2017.
I completed my articles of clerkship at a leading dispute resolution and litigation firm in Cape Town and was admitted as an attorney of the High Court of South Africa in early 2020.
I currently practice as an associate attorney at a new boutique law firm in Cape Town where my specialities lie in civil and commercial litigation, administration of deceased estates, insolvency law and public interest law.
I have a passion for outreach and from a very young age my parents instilled in me what it truly means to give back to others. My position as a co-founder at Mama Flo allows me to give back in the best possible way while meeting and working with the most inspiring young women and community.

Mama Flo was founded in 2020 with our goal being to empower young girls to stay clean and healthy by providing them with sanitary products - both single use and reusable - because we believe no women should have to worry about their period.
Together with providing our Mama Flo community with sanitary pads we endeavour to provide menstrual hygiene education and allow for open dialogue on the topic of Period Poverty. We believe we need to get rid of the stigma around periods and do our best to provide a safe space for our beautiful community.
Our aim is to provide short and long term sustainable solutions to period poverty through hand-outs, workshops and social media campaigns.
In 2021, Mama Flo joined the Union of Jewish Women as an independent project under the UJW umbrella. Working as one of their projects has provided us additional support and resources to help fight period poverty
